Our materials
Everything we do starts with materials. From textiles to buttons to the packaging your Uskees turns up in, we've made deliberate choices with longevity and reducing waste in mind.
Organic cotton
We work with cotton for its versatility, breathability, and ease of care. When cotton is grown organically, farmers don't use toxic chemicals, which is better for both the environment and farm workers.
Our suppliers use GOTS certified organic cotton. This means that all Uskees garments are made from fully certified fabrics.
The thread in our garments is not organic, however. We use polyester thread which is super strong. The pockets in our trousers are lined with polyester for durability, and our wash care labels are made from a recycled polyester. We're always looking for ways to switch to more sustainable materials, while maintaining the quality of our garments.
Corozo buttons
When it comes to buttons, using harmful plastic wasn't an option. We researched different alternatives and came across Corozo buttons, They're derived from the nut of the Tagua Palm (a palm tree found in Central America). This 'vegetable ivory' is used for buttons and other craft purposes because of its longevity and its appealing texture and colour.
