A look at our creative materials
Uskees' core range of workwear inspired garments, suiting, essentials and accessories are woven from certain selected materials. These fabrics come into focus according to the seasons and are chosen for their integrity. By that we mean their comfort, strength, style and wear, as well as the ethical standards at source.

Midweight Organic Cotton
285gsm · 100% organic cotton · GOTS certified
Organic cotton is a natural fibre grown free of pesticides. Ours is a medium weight, meaning it feels substantive without weighing you down. It also breathes well, shifts and moves ably and can be cared for with ease, so it’s an ideal fabric for daily use pieces such as our signature 3001 overshirt.
Organic Cotton Twill
290gsm · 100% organic cotton · GOTS certified
Twill differs from regular cotton in that it’s created using a warp and weft technique. The result is a tightly interlaced weave that’s strong, smooth and refined in aesthetic. We use this smart, durable material for workwear inspired suiting like the 3047 Docklands blazer and our 5005 work pants.

11-Wale Organic Corduroy
11-wale · 100% organic cotton corduroy
Cord is a rugged fabric said to have been designed for mill workers in our home city of Manchester, UK. It features tactile, nap ridges, or ‘wales’, and is warm, soft and sophisticated, making it an ideal autumn-winter fit. We use 11-wale per inch cord in all our blazers, trousers and overshirts.
Organic Jersey
250-430gsm · 100% organic cotton · GOTS certified
Jersey is a close knit, elastic material that’s soft, breathable and absorbent. It hails from the eponymous British island where it was used by fisherman as a comfortable base layer, before later becoming a staple of sportswear. We use jersey for more laidback pieces such as sweaters, joggers, shorts, hoodies and tees.

Oxford
180gsm · 100% cotton
Oxford cotton cloth is characterised by its basketweave structure and satisfyingly tactile surface. It’s also known for its durability, wrinkle-resistance and breathability. We use Oxford fabric in our shirting because it’s a versatile, reliable choice that looks good with casual attire or as part of a smart pairing.
Organic Drill
385gsm · 100% organic cotton · GOTS certified
Drill is a heavyweight fabric with a diagonally brushed surface that makes it smooth and abrasion resistant. Because it’s so hardwearing, it was used by soldiers in the British Raj and WW2, then later in professional uniforms and upholstery. Drill wears brilliantly, softening with age, and can be found in many of our trousers, overshirts and vests.

Wool
100% Merino Wool · 100% Lambswool · Woolmark certified
We use 100% wool spun and woven from yarn shorn from ultra soft Merino sheep or lambs. The waviness or ‘crimp’ of wool makes it a natural insulate, and it wicks moisture brilliantly, moving it to the tip of the fabric where it dries quickly. Our hats and accessories all come in this historic natural material.
Seasonal Combos
Occasionally our seasonal collections will include one-off pieces that feature synthetic or non-organic materials. These compositions are intended to improve a garment’s longevity of life, structure and shape. Such garments will always be in low quantities, and the synthetic materials will be minimised and recycled wherever possible, as well as obtained from ethical suppliers.
We will always be transparent about the composition of our creations, and offset man-made material use with our Re-up and Repair schemes, as well as partnerships with environmental charities.
